Scientology ministers are often called upon to help the child. Children today are not only beset with the problems that have always troubled young people—nightmares, squabbles with friends, difficulties with their studies—but face a whole new host of ills as a consequence of our ailing society. Drugs and sexual abuse steal the happiness of children at an increasingly young age, while gang violence and rampant criminality endanger their lives; and one need only glance at an inner-city school to appreciate just how badly our society has served their welfare. Long concerned with the well-being of man’s
future, The ill or injured child, and even infants, may be assisted. The young student suffering through his studies will find relief through the application of L. Ron Hubbard’s study technology. The student who cannot get along with his friends can quickly resolve the matter with communication skills learned on a course specifically designed for him. And even very young children may receive auditing. Possessing all these tools and more, Scientology ministers are well equipped to counsel parents so that their children grow up happy, confident and able. They recognize that the child is often wonderfully sane, that his values and sense of reality are acutely sharp, and if only adults around him would refrain from attempts to manage and fashion him into their image, he will become a fine, successful person. Scientology Volunteer Ministers Help Parents Raising children should be a joy. A lot of parents know it can be one of the most rewarding of all human experiences. For those that don’t and struggle with day-to-day problems such as misbehavior, poor grades, drug problems and such, something can be done about it. Volunteer Ministers through the application of Scientology principles can help parents with tools to make bringing their children up the pleasure that it should be. Every parent wants to ensure their children are happy, loving and productive, and that they grow up to become valuable members of society—sometimes you just need the right tools. “Life with my three kids was a living hell. What happened? Those beautiful babies and cute kids were now out of control monsters. I wondered how it got so bad. I blamed myself. A good friend of mine saw me ‘drowning’ and threw me a lifesaver. It was the phone number of a Volunteer Minister. I called her up. She understood what I was going through and calmly and smoothly helped me put order into my life and got my children taking responsibility for the situation. It wasn’t me against them anymore. We became a team—a family. She gave me a booklet called ‘Children’ and said I’d find the answers to happy children inside it. She was right! Because of this I recovered 3 ‘best friends’ and made another one—a wonderful and caring Volunteer Minister. Thanks for all the love and help!” S.C. “Becoming a Volunteer Minister has fulfilled my lifelong goal of being able to really help children. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to bring about change in any child. One instance I recall vividly was helping the parents of a small boy who was an absolute terror to the family, his school and himself. He was out of control and they were in despair. My training as a Volunteer Minister gave me the tools to tackle such a situation. But I wasn’t going to do the job of the parents. Instead, I coached them on exactly what they should do, using the data in the ‘Children’ booklet from my training. Well, the child came straight and the parents now have something they can use to create a happy future for their child and themselves.” A.D.

L. Ron Hubbard Study Skills
|
The ability to understand and retain data, to actually be able to learn, is vital in today’s world. New technologies and the constant avalanche of information have made the ability to read, understand and duplicate information necessary to anyone’s survival. Despite the need for learning skills, literacy levels in most nations have been on a downhill slide. Surveys show that children in schools are not taught how to study. College entrance scores are declining dismally. And even industrialized nations suffer alarmingly high levels of illiteracy. As early as 1950, L. Ron Hubbard expressed concern over the poor quality of so-called “modern” education. In response, he developed an educational technology which isolated the three previously unknown barriers to effective study and provided the only known technique for learning how to learn. Today his methods are used by millions of people in all walks of life—Scientologists and non-Scientologists alike. The results are uniform; a regained ability to learn and apply any data which one has studied. Community based learning centers and educational programs around the world make this technology available to anyone. As a result, Mr. Hubbard’s study methods are today used widely in schools and businesses around the world. The study technology is also used in all Scientology churches, missions and groups. Scientologists find it invaluable in aiding their spiritual progress as it gives them educational skills which enable them to fully understand the Scientology scriptures they study. Books on L. Scientology Drug Education
Churches of Scientology also spearhead an international grass-roots campaign against drugs, uniting concerned community groups and staging public awareness forums, drug prevention rallies and educational conferences. Scientologists believe that the real answer to keeping youth off drugs is to provide them with a full understanding of the dangers of drugs so that each can make his own self-determined decision to be drug-free. This is the thrust of the Say No to Drugs program, sponsored by Churches of Scientology and their members—its purpose to help bring an end to the international scourge of drug abuse through effective co-action and drug prevention initiatives. One campaign created by the Church of Scientology International is the “Drug-Free Marshals” youth drug-education and prevention program. Launched in 1993 this program educates children as young as 6 on the dangers of drugs, and encourages them to grow up and live their lives drug-free. They are asked to sign a pledge and make a commitment. By being “sworn in” as Drug-Free Marshals (in some countries they are called Drug-Free Ambassadors) they agree to remain drug-free and to tell their friends and family to do the same. This drug prevention campaign has rapidly spread internationally; since its creation, over 3.1 million people have sworn in as Drug-Free Marshals in cities and towns all around the world—throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and others. To give parents and educators a better understanding of drugs children are exposed to, the Church publishes booklets that teach the effects of drugs on children and how to communicate to youth about the dangers of drugs. As a public service, these and other drug education booklets are distributed by Churches of Scientology around the world. Local government officials, police, schools, libraries, churches, nightclubs, community newspapers, radio stations and community organizations use these booklets in their own campaigns in the war against drugs, resulting in safer, drug-free neighborhoods.

Scientologists Support Human Rights
|
Churches of Scientology believe that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, applied broadly, will reduce human rights violations across the world and will also help defuse the anger that causes racial and religious conflicts. But for any human rights charter to be effective it requires understanding and application. Therefore, Scientologists work to bring about a greater awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and encourage its practice. Churches of Scientology have for many years made human rights education a priority and so they helped to establish Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI), whose members have traveled the world teaching youth about human rights. Members of Youth for Human Rights have also produced the award-winning human rights music video UNITED.
